Research Data Visualization

Oftentimes the final step in academic research is publishing and presenting scientific results. Making your data speak through visualization is an important step where Science IT can support you.

Designing and building graphics, charts, infographics, posters, and other information visualizations requires the distillation of complex research results into clear, accurate, and meaningful visualizations that tell a story. Science IT supports researchers with expert consultation on data and its visualization with specific tools, such as:

  • R Shiny: an R-based platform to build interfaces where users can interact with and visualize data in real time. Deployment is possible locally via a GitHub link.
  • Jupyter: a notebook based interface where researchers can "tell the story" of their data with their actual code presented alongside their created graphics. Notebooks have become a standard with software development, and using them for scientific publications provides many benefits.
  • Matplotlib and Plotly: Python-based tools that can be used to build industry-standard static visualizations as well as interfaces where the users can interact and visualize data in real-time.
