Recording

To request a recording, please use the request form. Processing is carried out on a best-effort basis. Once requested, MELS opens a series in SWITCHcast with the recording data, and the recording(s) will then take place automatically. For further information regarding the creation of series and recordings, please refer to our SWITCHcast Video Tutorials.

Audio/video of the instructor(s) and the presentation are recorded in parallel.

Generally, the image section is fixed and specifically configured for lecture recordings.


If you require a different image section, e.g. for a discussion group, please contact the  City Campus Event Service or Irchel Campus Event Service, depending on the venue. The Event Service staff will execute the desired screen settings for you. Currently, such requests can only be considered in exceptional cases.

Editing

Please watch the “Cutting Event” SWITCHCast video tutorial to familiarize yourself with the user interface.

You can edit your recordings in SWITCHcast, e.g. in order to remove pauses, edit metadata, or add further metadata.

To complete the editing process, publish the recording in the SWITCHcast editor using the “Publish” and “Save & Continue” workflow. This exports the recording and makes it available in accordance with the access rights, publication formats, and licenses previously assigned to the series. The recording will be ready for integration or publication on your website or in OLAT approximately 24 hours after it has been published in the editor.

If you only need to make one recording per semester, we will gladly take care of the post-processing. This usually takes place within two working days after recording.

Publishing

You can publish your recordings on OLAT or a website or send them as a link via e-mail. You can use links to a series or to individual recordings. In the case of event series, we recommend you include the series link. This will automatically integrate every corresponding recording (provided that it has been published in SWITCHcast)

Note: Before you can publish your recording on OLAT, on your website, or via e-mail, you must publish it in the SWITCHcast Editor.

  • Integrating your recording into your OLAT course:
    • Use the  “SWITCHcast” OLAT module, copy the link, or the embed code from SWITCHtube.
    • With the “Learning Management System” standard access right, you can only integrate your recording in an OLAT course by means of the  “SWITCHcast” OLAT module.
  • Integrating the recording into your website:
    • Copy the link to or embed the code on SWITCHtube on your website.
    • Send the link to the series or recording by e-mail. To do this, copy the relevant link. You will find instructions for this in the SWITCHcast tutorials
