AI Tools and Services
The Central IT Department continuously evaluates the use of AI solutions for the members of the university in light of UZH’s IT security, data protection, and compliance requirements. This overview provides the current status of the various solutions. Solutions that have been approved and made available can be accessed via the UZH-Software Portal or the ZI Service Catalog.

(1) The AI system is considered a closed system if, based on the specific software version used and the specific system configuration, the following requirements are met: The AI system uses the information provided to it by the user or accessed independently by the system within the user’s environment or otherwise by UZH, generally not for its own purposes, and third parties have access to this information and the content generated from it only to the extent provided for by UZH’s access management or if the user releases the information or content to them on a case-by-case basis.
(2) Web search is enabled by default; data is NOT used for the AI system’s own purposes.
(3) Web search is disabled by the user.
(4) Depends on the specific type of use.
(5) Rejected by the Legal Department as part of the Software Compliance Check due to unacceptable processing of personal/confidential data in the U.S. (inadequate data protection).
