Survey Tools

The University of Zurich provides its members with two survey tools for different purposes.

Overview of available tools

LimeSurvey (for general surveys)

  • Suitable for: Online surveys as part of research projects. . 
  • Advantages: Open source, flexible, ready to use.
  • Access: Login with UZH short name and WebPass.
  • Restriction: Less suitable for standardized evaluations.

evasys (for evaluations)

  • Suitable for: Course and program evaluations as well as other standardized feedback processes. 

  • Access: Upon request via support@zi.uzh.ch.

Notes on use

Legal compliance & data protection 

For sensitive data (e.g., patient data), please check additional legal requirements.
LimeSurvey and evasys are both hosted at UZH. Therefore, no special data protection requirements apply.

Large surveys

  • Simultaneous participation > 50 people: Please contact us in advance: support@zi.uzh.ch. 
  • Recommended delivery: Send invitations in groups of 250 people on consecutive days. 

Collaboration in groups (LimeSurvey)

Surveys can be edited collaboratively:

  • All group members log in to LimeSurvey UZH.
  • The owner logs in to LimeSurvey UZH.
    In another tab of the same browser, he / she creates a user group: 
    Create group (The owner's name must be visible in the top right-hand corner.)
  • The owner returns to LimeSurvey and selects the menu item
    Survey Permissions → «User Group» (in the drop-down list).
    Add group users (button). 
  • In the following window, define the permissions for this added group:
    Edit permissions (the permissions there are only set for illustrative purposes – define the permissions according to your requirements).
  • Add new group members later: repeat the same steps.
