Instructions for Dust-Generating Work in the Vicinity of NUZ Distribution Points

If work that generates dust is planned in the area of a NUZ distribution point (NUZ = University of Zurich network), appropriate protective measures must be taken. The following three options describe how to proceed, depending on the situation of the building.

Building Under Complete Renovation (No Network Operation Required)

In this case, the switch can be completely removed.

Procedure:

  1. Remove the switch
  2. Carry out the work
  3. Clean the distribution box
  4. Reinstall the switch

Building in Operation – One-Off Work Possible Outside Operating Hours

Here, the switch can be temporarily switched off and protected.

Procedure:

  1. Switch off the switch (no network operation in the building)
  2. Wrap the switch airtight
  3. Carry out the work
  4. Clean the distribution box
  5. Unwrap the switch
  6. Carry out a final clean
  7. Switch the switch back on

Building Remains in Operation – Network Remains Available at All Times

If the work cannot be concentrated within a specific time window or if the network must remain continuously available, a technical protection solution is required.

Procedure:

  1. Plan positive-pressure ventilation for the switch
  2. Enclose the switch with a supply of dust-free fresh air and exhaust air
  3. Carry out the work
  4. Clean the distribution point
  5. Unwrap the switch

Note on responsibility

The University of Zurich does not approve or inspect dust protection measures. The companies involved are responsible for selecting and properly implementing an appropriate solution.
