Instructions for Renovation Work in the Vicinity of NUZ Distribution Points
If construction or renovation work is planned in the area of a NUZ distribution point (NUZ = University of Zurich network), please observe the following points. These guidelines are intended to protect the network infrastructure and prevent outages.
Planning and Coordination
- At least 4 weeks before commencement:
Discuss the planned work with the- «IT and Construction Coordination» Unit

Dust Exposure and Cleaning
- For work that generates dust, please follow the
instructions for dust-producing renovation work in the vicinity of NUZ distribution points. - If cleaning of the room or distribution point is required, coordinate this with the staff unit at least two weeks in advance:
- A proposal for a qualified cleaning company is required.
- The staff unit can provide suitable contacts upon request.
- As a rule, cables and equipment must also be cleaned — not just the racks.
Attention: Unqualified personnel can easily cause damage and lead to network outages.
Power Supply
Work on the power supply must always be coordinated with the local facilities management of the University of Zurich. The instructions of the facilities services are binding.
- Planned outages:
- Notify at least 1 week in advance at:

- Unplanned outages (disruptions):
Report the reasons as soon as possible to the same address.
Attention: Power outages affecting NUZ distribution points lead to network outages in the building or neighboring buildings.
Please take the university’s operating hours into account. Depending on the situation, outages may only be permitted outside working hours or may require a temporary power supply. Switching devices to a temporary setup may only be carried out after prior coordination (at least two weeks in advance).
Ventilation and Cooling
- Work on ventilation or cooling systems must always be coordinated with the local facilities management.
- Taking such systems out of operation usually requires shutting down network equipment due to insufficient heat dissipation. These activities must be coordinated with the support unit at least two weeks in advance.
Liability
All persons involved in the construction work are liable for damages or outages resulting from improper work — including omissions that lead to disruptions.
