Access Rights, Licensing and Publication

How to manage and publish your recording.

Depending on where you publish your recording (e.g. in OLAT or Switch Cast Mediaspace), you can configure the access rights and usage licenses there.

Default Settings

By default, access to your recording is set to ‘Private’, meaning it is not published. If you publish the recording on OLAT or Mediaspace, please note: Extending access may have implications for copyright-protected material. Third-party material included in presentations may no longer be considered part of a closed course.
Example: The recording is published in a Mediaspace channel with ‘UZH members’ access.

In OLAT

In OLAT, access is controlled by the course administrator via the course member management and the configuration of the «Kaltura»  course element.

In Switch Cast Mediaspace

If you are not using OLAT, set the access rights directly in Mediaspace. We recommend that you always assign recordings to a channel and control access via an existing or a new channel. Further information and options can be found via the following link.

By choosing a license, you determine how authorized persons may use your content.

• If you specify a license in the video itself, select «As defined in content».
• Alternatively, you can use a «Creative Commons license» (see creative commons).
• Without an explicit license, «All Rights reserved» applies.

Recommendation: Always define a license to avoid misunderstandings about usage.

You can publish your livestream in various ways:

OLAT Course

• In OLAT: In the ‘Kaltura’ course block, add the desired live stream to the ‘Media Gallery’.

• On Switch Cast Mediaspace: Publish your live stream on the Mediaspace video portal within a channel.

• On websites: Embed your live stream or a channel playlist from Mediaspace into your website using the embed code, or link to it directly. Please note: Channels cannot be embedded.

• Via direct links: Share links to individual live streams, channels or channel playlists directly with your target audience.

At present, downloadable files of event recordings contain only the audio and the presentation.
